My Friend Vincent
Rp185.000
Java, Indonesia, a stone quarry mine. A grey building wraps itself around a dark space divided up into countless miniature cubicle rooms. Each room barely serves its purpose as a brief escape for the exhausted quarry workers. In one room, lying on his dirty mattress, a man dares to dream his dream. It’s the same dream he has had for thirty years. For under his bed lie two paintings, paintings inherited from a time and place when things were brighter.
He dreams again of that face staring out from the old cracked canvas. There’s something special about the painting, about that face. Tonight his dreams are vivid, he is stuck somewhere between his imagination and real world. He can feel the painting burning up through the thin mattress into his back.
Maybe it is time. Maybe these paintings have been with him way too long. Maybe it’s time to let them go.
